The session will also be the occasion of presenting the new online professional platform, an online market and networking place dedicated to the Video on Demand sector.

The VOD ecosystem is still rapidly evolving worldwide with fresh challenges and opportunities emerging. The session will provide essential context for the discussions and debates of the next three days. It will offer new, emerging and more established services and platforms a view of where their work might fit into new realities. The session will be a chance to ask questions and share experiences.

Presented by: Guy Bisson (Ampere Analysis)

11:45 – 13:00 “Demand creation: how to engage a changing audience”

The European film industry is coming to terms with a rapidly evolving environment with new technologies, changing patterns of audience behavior disrupting established business. The Covid crisis has accentuated and accelerated changing patterns of audience demand for European film. Months of lockdown has increased interest in on-demand viewing and we need to learn lessons about how European talent and business can build on those changes. Lockdown proved the value of cooperation between on demand services and cinemas and festivals. That combination of online and physical opens up tremendous potential for European film and for cultural diversity. This session will focus on how to build collaboration and cooperation in a new digital framework on the interests of film, audience and business. It will look at emerging models and best practices and how they can be best implemented.

101 Reasons Why Independent Producers are the Driving Force of the Film Industry

The aim of 2nd European Film Politics Seminar (hosted by the Venice Production Bridge) is to debate reasons why independent producers are the driving force of the film industry at large.

The debate will link back to the 1st edition of the Seminar (in Feb 2020, hosted by the European Film Market of the Berlinale), where 50 experts from the industry and public funding bodies from across the continent have identified, debated and voted three important Calls to Action: imposing transparency about consumption data of European works and revenues, ensuring the channeling of financial investments and levies into works by independent producers, and last but not least, enabling independent producers to retain IP and rights for their works.

The Coronavirus has accelerated the disruption of the film industry as we know it. Whereas the immediate effects are known (and include a strong shift in terms of viewer destination and an equally strong shift of the money flow in the film business), the future effects can and should be shaped by foresighted and brave European and national regulation. The role of independent producers in this fast-changing development remains pivotal, for at least 101 reasons.

    Speakers:

    • Pandora Da Cunha Telles, Producer, Ukbar Filmes (Portugal)
    • Marco Chimenz, Co-CEO and Producer, Cattleya (Italy)
    • Friedrich Radmann, Managing Director, Constantin TV (Germany)

    • Guest Speakers: Alessandro Guida (Film Director), Neva Leoni (Film Actress), Sara Vinciguerra (Head of Government Affairs of Roche Italia), Nicola Liguori and Tommaso Ranchino (Executive Producers for MP FILM), Alessandro Marchello (Author of the short story “Guardami! Sto volando”)
