Created Different, an Immersive Future
Hosted by Canon
Immersive technologies are redefining the way audiovisual content is created and experienced. Virtual reality, spatial video, and new production tools are enabling creators to move beyond the traditional viewing experience, transforming audiences from passive spectators into active participants in the storytelling process.
Drawing on projects developed through the collaboration between Canon and leading Italian academic institutions, this panel will explore how immersive technologies are unlocking new creative possibilities for documentary filmmaking and factual storytelling. Through concrete case studies, speakers will share insights gained throughout the various stages of project development, from concept creation to production, examining the creative and technological choices that have contributed to the emergence of new narrative formats.
At the heart of the discussion will be the role of technology as an enabler of creativity. The panel will examine how Canon’s VR System and Professional Video ecosystem empower students, educators, and industry professionals to experiment with innovative storytelling languages and increasingly immersive and engaging audience experiences.
The session will also offer a broader reflection on the value of collaboration between the corporate world and educational institutions, highlighting how partnerships of this kind can foster experimentation with emerging technologies, accelerate innovation, and help develop the new skills and professional profiles required by the creative industries.
Looking ahead, the speakers will explore the opportunities and challenges facing the immersive cinema sector, discussing the competencies needed to thrive in this rapidly evolving field and the role that universities and film schools are playing in preparing the next generation of professionals.
During the event, video content and project contributions produced by the participating academic institutions will also be showcased, demonstrating the creative and narrative potential of immersive technologies in contemporary storytelling.
