Oscar Nominations 2025: six films from the Biennale Cinema receive 17 nominations overall

Ten nominations for the Silver Lion The Brutalist by Brady Corbet; Fernanda Torres nominated for Actress in a Leading Role for I'm Still Here by Walter Salles.

The nominations for the Oscars 2025 were announced today, and from the list of nominations six films were presented at the Venice International Film Festival of La Biennale di Venezia, receiving 17 nominations overall.

Flow by Gints Zilbalodis, nominated for Best Animated Feature Film and Best International Feature Film, participated in the Venice Gap Financing Market program of the Venice Production Bridge at the 79th Venice International Film Festival in 2022. Flow has already won the Golden Globe for best animation film.

The six nominated films are: the Silver Lion For Best Director The Brutalist by Brady Corbet, the Award for Best Screenplay film I'm Still Here by Walter Salles, Maria by Pablo Larraín, September 5 by Tim Fehlbaumand two animated short movies from Orizzonti section of the 80th Venice International Film Festival 2023, In the Shadow of the Cypress by Hossein Molayemi and Shirin Sohani, and Wander to Wonder by Nina Gantz.

Ten nominations were received by the film that won the Silver Lion For Best Director at the 81st Venice International Film Festival 2024, The Brutalist by Brady Corbet: Best Picture, Best Directing, Best Actor in a Leading Role (Adrien Brody), Best Writing Original Screenplay (Brady Corbet e Mona Fastvold), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Felicity Jones), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Guy Pearce), Best Music Original Score (Daniel Blumberg), Best Film Editing (Dávid Jancsó), Best Cinematography (Lol Crawley), Best Achievement in Production Design (Judy Becker).

I'm Still Here by Walter Salles, which won the Award for Best Screenplay at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, won three nominations: Best Picture, Best Actress in a Leading Role (Fernanda Torres),  Best International Feature Film.

Maria by Pablo Larraín, in Competition at the 81st Venice Internatinal Film Festival, was nominated for Best Cinematography andSeptember 5 by Tim Fehlbaum, opening film of Orizzonti Extra section at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, was nominated for Best International Feature Film.

In the Shadow of the Cypress by Hossein Molayemi and Shirin Sohani, and Wander to Wonder by Nina Gantz, in Orizzonti Short Film section at the  80th Venice International Film Festival 2023, won the nominations for Best Animated Short Film.

La Biennale di Venezia warmly congratulates all the people and productions that won the nominations and Isabella Rossellini, nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for the film Conclave.
