Within the 76th Venice International Film Festival, the 4th edition of the Book Adaptation Rights Market (30 August – 1 September 2019) for the book rights adaptation will be held.
This 3-day event, as part of the Venice Production Bridge, will propose the adaptation rights of the works of distinguished publishers (novels, essays, graphic novels, children literature…) through one-to-one meetings with international producers.
Unlike other events dedicated to publishing in film festivals, the Book Adaptation Rights Market invites publishers to bring their entire catalogue for the transformation of texts into film scripts.
This project has demonstrated its relevance and importance in a very short space of time by growing from 15 to 23 selected publishers in just three years time.
Between 2016 and 2018, the following renowned publishing houses have participated in the BARM: Andrew Nurnberg Associates (United Kingdom); Blue Ocean Press/ ARI (United States); CAL France (France); De Bezige Bij (the Netherlands); DeA Planeta Libri; Diogenes (Switzerland); Editions de l’Homme sans nom (France); Editorial Planeta S.A. (Spain); Edizioni Nottetempo (Italy); Elisabeth Ruge Agentur (Germany); Feltrinelli Editore (Italy); Flammarion (France); French Pulp Editions (France); Gallimard (France); Glénat (France); Gruppo Editoriale Mauri Spagnol (Italy); Kadokawa (Japan); Lannoo Publishers (Belgium); MacLehose Press (United Kingdom); Mediatoon Audiovisual Rights (France); Nefeli Publishing (Greece); Nottetempo (Italy); Oetinger Filmrechte-Agentur (Germany); Place des Editeurs (France); Rights & Brands (Finland, Sweden); Pontas Literary & Film Agency (Spain); Robert Laffont (France); Salomonsson Agency (Sweden); Sellerio Editore (Italy); Singel Uitgeverijen (the Netherlands); Ullstein Buchverlage (Germany).
Since the first edition this initiative pursues the twofold objective of:
• increasing the international visibility of the publishing world
• underlining the importance of publishing as an inexhaustible source of inspiration for the film industry
On the occasion of the 4th edition of the Book Adaptation Rights Market within the Venice Production Bridge, it has been decided to invite 25 publishers and to open the BARM to possible collaborations with book centres and publishing related activities aimed to support the initiative.
